This page answers a specific complaint that advanced learners make. They understand almost everything, they can manage any practical situation, and then they sit through a serious conversation between educated Algerians and find they have nothing to contribute. Not because they lack words, but because they lack these words.
Ten sentences, deliberately few, each one a complete move in a real discussion. كلامك فيه تناقض, there is a contradiction in what you are saying. ما عنديش مبرّر، صحّ، غلطت, I have no justification, true, I was wrong. المعطيات هذي ما كافياش باش نحكمو, this data is not enough for us to judge.
This is Darija, not Standard Arabic
Look at the structure of these sentences. The frame is entirely Algerian, ma and sh wrapped round the verb, رني and درك and بلّي doing their usual work. What is educated about them is the vocabulary sitting inside that ordinary frame. That is exactly how Algerians speak when the subject is serious, and it is why switching entirely into Standard Arabic to sound intelligent has the opposite effect.
Admitting you are wrong is a move
صحّ، غلطت. True, I was wrong. Learners tend to collect the aggressive moves and skip this one, and it is the most useful sentence on the page. Being able to concede cleanly is what marks somebody as a serious participant rather than someone defending a position they cannot support.
Learn them whole
Ten sentences is few enough to memorise entirely, and that is the intention. Do not break them apart for vocabulary. Learn each as one thing you can produce at speed, because the moment for on the one hand he is right and on the other his approach is wrong lasts about two seconds, and if you are assembling it the moment has gone.
What to do with this page
Memorise four. Pair this with the ideas and opinions page, which gives you the underlying vocabulary, and then find a real discussion to sit in. This is the one page in the library that cannot be practised alone at all, because every sentence on it is a response to something somebody else said.
