French words inside Algerian Darija

A significant amount of ordinary Algerian speech is French, said the Algerian way, and treating that as a corruption to be avoided will make you sound stranger rather than purer. If everybody around you says normalement, saying it is not a failure of your Arabic.

Fifty one entries here, and you will notice most of them have no Arabic column, because they are written and thought of as French words. What they have is a distinctively Algerian job to do.

The meaning has often shifted

This is the part that catches French speakers out. normalement in Algerian speech does not always carry the sense a French speaker expects, and the same is true of several others here.
