Getting around is the first thing that forces you to speak whether you are ready or not. A taxi driver asks where to, a bus conductor asks for a fare, somebody in the street answers your question with three sentences of directions. You cannot prepare for all of it, but you can prepare for most of it, because the exchanges are short and they repeat.
This page covers the street, the taxi, the bus, the shop and the money that changes hands in each. Nearly two hundred entries, and it sits next to the travel page, which has the longer sentences you will actually say out loud.
Learn to not understand, properly
ما فهمتش, I did not understand, is on this page and it is one of the most valuable lines in the library. So is asking somebody to repeat, and asking them to slow down. Learners avoid these because they feel like admissions of failure. They are the opposite. A person who can say I did not understand keeps the conversation alive; a person who cannot has to end it. Learn these three before you learn anything clever.
Directions come back faster than you can take them
When you ask the way you will get an answer at full speed with two or three landmarks in it. The realistic goal is not to catch all of it. It is to catch the direction word and one landmark, walk that far, and ask again. The position words on this page, قدّام and قريب and the rest, are the ones that carry the direction. Get those solid and let the rest wash past.
The taxi has its own short language
Where to, how much, on the meter, stop here, keep the change. Five lines and you have handled almost every taxi ride. They are on the travel page in full. It is worth having them memorised as fixed blocks rather than assembled fresh each time, because a taxi is exactly the situation where you will not have the composure to assemble anything.
What to do with this page
Plan a route you would actually take. Then write the language for it in order: greeting, destination, price, a clarifying question, thanks, goodbye. Say the whole sequence out loud twice. You have just rehearsed a real journey, and rehearsal is the only thing that holds up when a stranger is waiting for you to speak.
