Verbs are the engine and there are fewer of them than you fear. A small set of very common verbs, used properly, will carry ordinary conversation for a long time. To go, to come, to want, to do, to say, to eat, to see, to know. Get those working in the present and the past and you can already talk about most of a day.
This page gives you two hundred and twenty of them, listed with the pair you actually need: the past form and the present form together, راح / يروح, جا / يجي, كلا / ياكل. That pairing is the whole point of the page, and it is why the entries are worth learning as pairs rather than as single words.
Learn them in pairs from the first day
A verb learned as one form is a verb you can only use in one tense. Learning راح and يروح together costs you almost nothing extra and doubles what you can say with it. Every entry here is laid out that way for exactly that reason. Do not shortcut it by taking only the first column.
Ten verbs will get you further than a hundred nouns
If you have limited time, spend it here rather than on vocabulary lists. A learner with ten solid verbs and forty nouns can hold a conversation. A learner with two hundred nouns and no verbs can label things and nothing else. The page on how the language is put together shows you how to negate these and how to attach the endings that say who is doing what, and the two pages together are most of a working grammar.
The imperative is its own thing
أرواح, come here, is on this page, and commands like it are used far more freely in Algerian than an English speaker expects. Bring, give, come, wait, look. They are not rude. Softening them the way English does, by making them longer and more conditional, is what sounds strange. Learn the direct forms and let your tone carry the politeness.
What to do with this page
Take eight verbs. Write out, for each, one sentence in the past and one in the present about your own day. Sixteen sentences, all of them true, all of them about you. That is worth more than a hundred flashcards, because you will use those sentences and you will remember them, and because the ones you get wrong will get corrected the first time you say them to somebody.
